History of Drifting

Although nobody knows the exact place in history where drifting began, we do know that it happened at about the mid-1960's. Like a lot of the racing forms you see these days, the high-powered adrenaline rush of drifting today has evolved from what was once an illegal form of racing. This usually took place on curving mountain roads which were referred to as touge (pronounced toe-geh). Touge was taken on by some really dedicated enthusiasts which were known as the rolling zoku whose main goals were to lower there times from point A to B.

With time, some of these drift enthusiasts started to adopt some of the same drifting techniques that rally drivers were using. These techniques were ideal as they would be able to corner down the curves in the road without losing as much momentum. As these rolling zoku drivers started to pick up a lot of the rally drivers' techniques and styles, they soon realized that there drifting performance and times were much better than before. The adrenaline rush was alot more intense and addictive. And from these early drifting beginings in history, drifting was now taking on its form.
